In an interview with Portuguese television channel TVI, the former Inter coach spoke of the challenge of accommodating CR9 into his team and how his efforts will be focused on applying a system that suits the strengths of the 25-year old.
When asked in which position Ronaldo will be employed under his command, Mourinho commented: “For me, the challenge is to create a proper system where Ronaldo feels like a fish in water.
“A team must be built so that their most important players are in a suitable habitat and can play to their best. A player like Cristiano Ronaldo cannot play in a tactical system that he does not like.”
Mourinho also added that he has been informed that the flying attacker's work ethic is unparallelled, and is relishing the opportunity to work alongside him.
He stated: “Real Madrid have told me that he is the first to arrive and the last to leave practice, no one works harder than him and no one cares more than him.
“I have no doubt that he will be a great professional who just wants to win and be the best, so he will understand me very well.”
